I got everyone beat as of yesterday. Had to bring my wife’s dead cat back from the vet to bury her in the yard.

Yeah, it was one of those kinds of weekends.

My inlaws lost their cat over the winter in CO a few years ago, and couldn’t bury it where they lived (condo) so they wanted to bury in a relatives back yard.

The back yard is in Nebraska.

They put the cat in the freezer until spring when the ground was soft enough to dig, then put the frozen cat in a cooler and drove it to Omaha to bury it.

I hauled a suit of armor (a la Monty Python) in the back of my Aunt’s Cobalt that I borrowed. The same aunt wanted the armor for decor in her house but didnt have time to go pick it up. I folded down the back seat so that the suit of armor was half-in the back seat, half-in the trunk.

Do I win?

Father in law will do anything to save a buck. Vets charge for cremation.

I couldn’t believe the story either. It was Mrs McMike’s cat from when she was in high school.. The thing lived to be almost 20 years old. She was in tears telling me that Alex the cat had died, then her tears dried up when she got to the part of the story about the freezer.

“Of course he is,” I said. :)

Pets have always been very important to my parents in law. Well, they have a group of plots in an actual pet cemetery (some used, some not yet).

I think this one was purely driven by the price of cremation, and the fact it was illegal to bury an animal in public/private land.

If they had a yard in CO, they would have still frozen the cat, but they wouldn’t have had to take it across state lines.

Aunt Jan is the nearest relative with a yard that would accept Kitty McFreezerburn.

You can’t seriously expect me to be sad about all these dead cats when that order form for a gallon and a half of cum is sitting right there.

Sorry to hear about the cat. My girl and I just lost ours 1 month ago. She was only 6 years old and its been rough on us. We chose to do a private cremation and hold onto the ashes. I hope you and your wife can keep movin forward.

This was also a cat-out-of-highschool cat. 18 years old, lived in the same room in the same house. When she moved out with me she left the cat behind to keep grandma (her house) company. Up until Saturday she was fine, but was having bladder control issues.

Came over again Sunday and grandma goes “I think the cat’s passed”

Found her mostly unresponsive on the floor, barely breathing. Made the decision to take her to the vet to put her down. Didn’t even talk cremation price, cost me $170 to put her down, then free burial at grandma’s with the rest of the family’s pets.

In the past two months she’s lost a grandpa, a dad, and now her cat.

She’s managing though, the best she can.

Wow... Best thing you can do is just to be there for her when she needs to cry. I’m sure you already know though :)

Since we used a mobile vet with Mrs McMike’s recent cat, we had a house call to put the cat down.

I watched the cat was getting worse and worse over a span of a few weeks, and I would sneak outside and dig a little every few days to make the burial go quicker. We were able to lay him to rest while he was still warm, which (I’m hoping) brought closure a little quicker.

To this day she thinks it only takes 10 minutes to dig a 24" x 18" x 24" hole in the back yard.
